This signed exhibition catalogue exemplifies Sol LeWitt's artistic interests during the 1970s. A leading figure in the Minimalist and Conceptual Art Movements, LeWitt strove to distance himself from the emotionally charged art making of the Abstract Expressionists. Instead, LeWitt practiced an entirely non-expressionistic style of painting which prized the composition's concept over its physical creation. Therefore, LeWitt's paintings - abounding with primary colours and geometric shapes - were executed by others who followed LeWitt's meticulously written instruction.
