A Royal Doulton Factory Pattern Book from the studio of Robert Allen

c. 1917-1918

Standard half leather ledger, stamped ‘R.A. 23’, rebound by Warwick Savage Printer, Burslem, Staffordshire, in January 1923. 398 pages, of watercolour and ink drawings of vases, plates, tea wares and figurines, inscribed with an individual pattern number from 8607 to 9004 and the prefix ‘R.A.’ for Robert Allen. The first page dated Jan 9th 1917.

The designs are accompanied by technical instructions for their glazing and decoration (hand-painted, transfer-printed, gilded and/or silvered) and annotated with the names of the specialist workers, glazers, painters and gilders involved.
