An exploration of the community of Dutch artists in 17th and early 18th-century Rome, self-titled the Bentvueghels. Six chapters contextualise the group and discuss Caravaggio's influence, the community's initiation rituals, their graffiti and drawing practices as well as the careers of several members including Pieter van Laer known as Bamboccio and Willem Doudijns. Followed by transcriptions ofpersonal writings and inscriptions as well as a list of known Bentvueghels with life dates, biographical notes and some illustrated works.
