An exploration of the 16th-and 17th-century illustrated handbooks of food carving and table service.  Five chapters discuss three Aragonese and English treatises on carving from the 15th and 16th centuries; the growing interest in illustrated manuals in 16th-century Italy, one chapter is dedicated to Mattia Giegher's heavily illustrated 'Tre Trattati', the influence of Giegher's manual in Germany through texts like those by Georg Philipp Harsdörffer and finally the illustrated manual's role in the increasing professionalisation of food carving. Followed by a catalogue of 61 works included in the exhibition.
