Exhibition: Houston, Museum of Fine Arts and New York, Metropolitan Museum, 2023
208 pages, 200 colour illustrations. Hardback. 26.7x24.1cms.
During the summer of 1905, Henri Matisse and André Derain went on holiday in Collioure, a fishing village fifteen miles from the Spanish border. The light and the scenery inspired experiments in colour that laid the groundwork for the movement known as Fauvism (from the French fauve, or 'wild beast'). More than 70 paintings, watercolors, and drawings document their stay, together with 21 letters, published here for the first time in English.
