Book of the Day: Henri Matisse The Lost 1941 Interview
Oct 01, 2013
Published here for the first time, both in English translation and the original French, this interview was conducted by Pierre Courthion in 1941, during the Nazi occupation of France, and whilst the 72 year old artist was recovering from a major operation. Provides a fascinating insight into the life of Henri Matisse (1869-1954), discussing fame, music and politics, supplemented by anecdotes from the artist's youth and days as a bohemian student in Paris, in the atelier of Gustave Moreau.
