Hardback. 27.5 x 22cms.Trained under the Flemish master Bernard van Orley, Coxcie was a contemporary of Quinten Metsijs, Joos van Cleve and Pieter Coecke van Aelst, yet also moved in the circles of Giorgio Vasari and Michelangelo during his ten year sojourn in Rome. Upon his return to the low Countries, and enriched by his study of classical antiquity, he was appointed court painter to Emperor Charles V and Philip I. Coinciding with an exhibition at theMuseum M, Leuven, this monograph includes biographical essays reassessing the artist's posthumous critical reception, his royal commissions (including the Hapsburg windows in Brussels cathedral), and his work in print.Contents:
